Pastor Michael A. Carrington Jr.

Rev. Michael Anthony Carrington, Jr. is a native Marylander who was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. Although he initially prepared to attend the School of Law at the University of Baltimore, the Holy Spirit redirected his path toward ministry. He answered that call by enrolling at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C., where he earned the Master of Divinity degree. Rev. Carrington is currently discerning and pursuing a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) program with a focus on preaching.
Rev. Carrington believes that preaching is, at its heart, telling the story of the Gospel of Jesus Christ—faithfully, clearly, and powerfully.
At the age of 25, during his first year at Wesley Theological Seminary, Rev. Carrington accepted his first pastoral appointment. He was appointed by Bishop Marcus Matthews to serve as Senior Pastor of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Reisterstown, Maryland. After two years, he was reappointed by Bishop LaTrelle Miller Easterling to serve as Senior Pastor of Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial United Methodist Church. He currently serves as Senior Pastor of Eastern United Methodist Church—the very congregation where he grew up and where his faith journey began. Rev. Carrington is the youngest Provisional Elder in the Baltimore–Washington Conference.
Rev. Carrington joined Eastern United Methodist Church at the age of seven in 1998 under the leadership of Rev. Constance C. Smith. Throughout his formative years, he was actively engaged in the life of the church, preaching his first sermon, “Have Faith,” and serving as the youngest member on several committees and ministries, including the Staff-Parish Relations Committee, Youth and Young Adult Chaplaincy, and the Finance Committee.
Rev. Carrington approaches ministry with a deep commitment to collaboration and shared leadership. He often says, “I am lazy—not lazy in the sense that I do not want to work, but lazy in that I do not appreciate doing anything by myself.” His ministry philosophy emphasizes togetherness, partnership, and community.
His mission is to serve God by pouring out all that God has given him into the lives of others, trusting God to replenish him for continued service. Rev. Carrington is known for proclaiming the Word of God with authenticity, humility, and bold faith—seeking not recognition, form, or fashion, but only to uplift and glorify God.
His favorite scripture is John 1:12–13:
“But as many as received Him, to th em He gave the right to become children of God… but of God.” Rev. Carrington lives by the conviction that prayer changes things and often reminds others, “A setback is nothing more than a stepping stone for a comeback.”
